Description: The impact of trauma on infants and children is a widely expressed need in the Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health field. Not only do professionals want to ensure the children they work with are successful, they also want to enhance the understanding and support caregivers when they are engaging with children who have experienced or are experiencing trauma. This training will target the following common questions around Trauma Informed Care:
What is trauma? Is it just a large life event or can it also be be fetal impacts from mother/medical conditions/stressors to the infant/etc.?
What is trauma-informed care?
How does trauma impact development?
What are some tools that professionals can use when working with families or children that experienced or are experiencing trauma?
What would be valuable to attendees working with these infants, children, and caregivers?
How can we dig deeper without understanding the huge impact and need for awareness around trauma?
Presenter(s): Dr. Marissa Gray DNP, PMHNP, IMH-E®, E-RYT/YACEP
Dr. Marissa Gray teaches in the Loewenberg College of Nursing as a Clinical Assistant Professor of Mental Health Nursing. She is a board-certified Psychiatric Mental Health Nurse Practitioner with a Doctorate in Nursing Practice from The University of Tennessee Health Science Center. She has extensive experience in pediatric, adult, and recovery mental health specializing in resilience, holistic wellness, and trauma-responsive psychiatric care with a focus on empowering self-efficacy, emotional regulation, and mindfulness-based stress reduction. Her interests lie at the intersection of advocacy, education, community networking, and program development. Her intention is to empower healthcare providers and leaders in interdisciplinary teamwork that promotes mental health, wellness, and resilience.
