This training offers an essential introduction to Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health (IECMH) and the practice of Reflective Supervision Consultation (RSC). Designed for professionals supporting infants, young children, and families, this session explores:
The foundational principles of IECMH and its role in various professional settings.
Reflective practice as a way of being, emphasizing self-awareness, emotional regulation, and relational engagement.
The characteristics and benefits of RSC, including its impact on workforce well-being, professional development, and family outcomes.
Practical applications of reflective practice, including the parallel process, holding the baby in mind, and understanding the family story.
Participants will engage in interactive discussions, case studies, and breakout activities to deepen their understanding of how reflective supervision fosters insight, professional growth, and high-quality, relationship-based services. Participants will experience a reflective practice space, spending time in their own self-reflection.

Katherine Bell, MMFT, MOL, ECMH-E®
Katherine Bell, the Director of Consultation and Practice here at AIMHiTN, began her journey at AIMHiTN in July 2023. Her career has spanned multiple sectors, but has found her happy place in the world of systems development with focus on infant and early childhood mental health. Prior to joining AIMHiTN, Katherine served as the TN Voices Early Childhood Program Director where she focused on program development and expansion of Infant and Early Childhood Mental Health Consultation supports in TN. Katherine is a three-time graduate of Trevecca Nazarene University, obtaining a masters degree in Marriage and Family Therapy as well as Organizational Leadership. Katherine believes that ultimately, early experiences matter for a lifetime. This belief drives her passion for supporting little ones and their caregivers in Tennessee.
Riann Proctor, LCSW
Riann Proctor is the Reflective Practice Coordinator at AIMHiTN as of August 2024. Riann started her career as a Certified Child Life Specialist in Las Vegas, Nevada, mainly working in the emergency department and the Clark County CAC Sexual Abuse Clinic. During that time, she earned her Master’s Degree in Social Work from The University of Nevada, Las Vegas. Riann spent 8 years in the NICU at Sunrise Children’s Hospital and then took a job in the Maternal-Fetal Medicine Clinic at Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston, TX. She also participated in a special program at a local elementary school, providing access to play therapy for children and families that could not afford to participate in any other way. Riann is so excited to join the mission at AIMHiTN, as she has been learning to support families and professionals in a variety of ways.
