Darranda Young

Darranda Young is a Christian, Wife, Mother, and the State Nurse Consultant for the Nurse-Family Partnership program offered through Tennessee Department of Health. She holds the position of the Perinatal Mental Health sector of the AIMHiTN’s Advisory Council.

Darranda was born in Memphis, TN in the 80s. She graduated from Hamilton High School in Memphis, TN in May 2006, and from Baptist College in Memphis with a Bachelor of Science in Healthcare Management in December 2011. She returned to school to earn a Bachelor of Science in Nursing and graduated from Union University in December 2014.

Darranda has been a nurse for a total of 10.5 years with 8 of the years with the Nurse-Family Partnership (NFP) program. She began as a bedside night nurse at LeBonheur Children’s Hospital on the Infant and Toddler unit. She then took a role as a nurse home visitor for NFP for 3 years, transition to the supervisor role and function as a supervisor for 4 years and currently serving in the role as the State Nurse Consultant for the state for one year now.

Darranda has a strong passion for community. One way she gives to her community is by her role as the Youth Coordinator and as the Co-chair Youth Coordinator for the Black Methodists for Church Renewal (BMCR). She has a passion for working with pregnant parents, children, and youth, recognizing the importance in early development and learning, and the impact it has our current and future society, and more importantly their own adulthood.   

Darranda feels living life to the fullest equals longevity. She enjoys sports mainly with her 3 beautiful girls, planning trips and events, outdoor activities such as fishing, camping, biking, running, hiking, etc. It is not ever a dull moment with Darranda, who enjoys a busy life of fun and purpose.
