Title: Stories From the Field: Keeping Literacy Alive
Date: July 9th, 2024
Time: 10:00am - 11:00am CST/ 11:00am - 12:00pm EST
Description:
Join us as we connect and encourage each other with Beverley Trobaugh, President of the Friends of the Catoosa Co. Library. With the change in our society’s view of libraries over the years, Beverley will spend time focusing on the invaluable assets that libraries bring to our communities; serving as centers of learning, professional development hubs, free connections to resources that span all populations and demographics, and finally, safe spaces to build relationships that could last a lifetime. Libraries open up a world of possibilities, from engaging activities with peers to structured play, creativity, and passion, all wrapped up and delivered to our children and families with a heart for connection. Beverley will share the importance of the library as the heart of a community, how a place of such beauty can build and strengthen positive relationships, and fosters continuous learning and imagination in children, keeping the love for literacy present and thriving. We all have the opportunity, like Beverley harnesses in her community, to have a profound impact on a child’s educational, social emotional, and lifelong love for learning.
*This training will be classified as a Pre-Literacy Training for ECE Workers, in accordance with TN DHS Licensure Rules for Child Care Agencies.
Presenter(s):
Beverley Trobaugh, President of the Friends of the Catoosa Co. Library
Beverley is currently a retiree after a fulfilling 30-year career in Child Care Services. She is the mother of two children and a grandmother of six. Although arguably a mother and grandmother to all the children she has impacted over the years. Beverley now spends her time volunteering for her library, as well as serving as a Member of the Catoosa County Literacy Task Force. She is also the President and Treasurer of the Friends of the Catoosa County Library. When she is not surrounded by books, she enjoys a good game of bridge or pickleball. She is an avid sports fan and has a heart for her community. Beverley truly is passionate in relationships; knowing that there is great impact when a caregiver sits with their child in their lap and reads a book aloud together.
