Title: Exploring Trauma-Informed Care, Resiliency and Equity Through a Lens of Population Health

Date: Thursday , May 18, 2023

Time: 9:00am-11:00amCST//10:00am-12:00pmEST

Presenters: Rachel Stiltner and Maria Mitchell

Description:

Did you know that toxic stress from Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs) can change brain development and affect how the body responds to stress? Shifting from the perspective of "What's wrong with you?," to "What happened to you?," allows us to better understand and reduce traumatic experiences among children, avoid re-traumatization throughout the life cycle, and create more safety and stability in the lives of all people.

In this learning session, attendees will:

• Explore the "whys" behind the brain science of Adverse Childhood Experiences (ACEs)

• Examine how ACEs shape adult lives and health outcomes

• Build an understanding of how some behaviors are driven by trauma-responses

• Understand the basic principles of trauma-informed care and resiliency.
